La Cima Ark-La-Tex Bilingual Leadership will host its second summit for Latino youth June 8-10, 2012. We are currently seeking Middle to High School Latino youths to participate in this program. Our aim is to engage Latino youth through greater school involvement to decrease drop-out rates for Latino youth and promote greater acceptance of Latinos. La Cima is conducted in English and Spanish, and promotes the bicultural, bilingual, and bi-literate experience of latinos in America. Our goal is to assist Latino youth as they merge with the greater community while maintaining their cultural and linguistic identity. La Cima increases self-esteem of participants and helps monolingual Spanish speakers to connect with the greater local community. Students will develop personal insight and leave equipped with more courage, compassion, and competence to serve their communities and make their dreams reality.
The retreat will begin at 2pm on Friday, June 8, 2012, and last through 2pm on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. More information to follow with registration materials during the months of April and May 2012. |
